Thursday, 10 March 1881 The death is announced on Feb. 24th of Mr. J. B. GARDINER, of Kane, who was one of the most esteemed and useful citizens of Greene county. He was a native of the county and was 56 years old at the time of his death. When a young man he learned the printing business in the office of the Telegraph and subsequently established the paper ever published in Bond county. After serving in the Mexican war he returned to Greene county and engaged in farming, sub- sequently going into the mercantile busi- ness at Kane with his brother. He was successful in his business pursuits, led an upright and conscientious life and died mourned by a wide circle of friends and relatives. His wife and four children survive him. ===========================================================================
