He at first purchased eighty acres, but now has two hundred and eighty acres, forty of which is in Grant township. He was born in the city of Glasgow, Scotland, in 1834. He was brought up in his native country, and in his youth, served an apprenticeship to the trade of linen thread making. He came to America in July, 1867, landed at New York and went to Illinois. In 1874 he came to Cass county and bought eighty acres of land, on which he settled the following year. He had, when he came here, but little of this world's goods, but is now in pros- perous circumstances. He was married in Scotland, to MARGARET GOW. They have eleven children, of whom the eldest two were born in Scotland. They have eight sons and two daughters. They lost one son previous to coming to this country. ===========================================================================
