LAING, a native of Michigan, was born on the 8th of Feb- ruary, 1842, and was there educated. In 1864 he started for Illinois, and located in McDonough county, where he entered land, and there remained until 1872, when he came to his present farm in Cass county. He built a frame house which was destroyed by a cyclone, and soon after built his present house. He has planted many shade and orna- mental trees in his groves, and has three hundred and twenty acres of good improved land. He was married in 1865 to EMMA LINDSEY, and by whom he has had seven children — GEORGE, DORA E., NETTIE M., ORLANDO J., DAY, AARON F. and CHESTER A.
