He was a shepherd when only fourteen years of age, and was employed until 1871, when he left his native land and came to Quebec, and remaining there a short time he went to Marshall county, Illinois, where he rented a farm for two years, when he came to Cass county, and settled on his present location, where he bought (two years previous to this) a farm, planted a grove and began to cultivate his land. Since that time he has purchased other land, owning now about three hundred and sixty-three acres, and raises some fine stock. He was married in 1846, to MARGARET WILLY, who died in 1856, leaving three children - AGNES, JANET and WILLIAM.
