                                -------------

                             BEAR GROVE TOWNSHIP
                               Early Settlement

          BENJAMIN ALBEE, in the spring of 18G1, made a settlement on
       section 10. He was a native of New York State. He remained in the
       township until the spring of 1883, when he moved to Oregon. Soon
       after his arrival in that far away land he had the misfortune to
       lose his wife, the helpmeet of a busy life, and in the fall of 1884,
       he returned to this county.
