Wednesday, 22 January, 1908

         A most deplorable tragedy occurred Monday evening
       south of town when BILLY BALZELL shot and instantly
       killed his sister-in-law, MRS. GEDDIS, who has been
       working for MRS. H. BOLLMAN. Sheriff HALL of WAUKON
       was notified and came at once and succeeded in cap-
       turing him shortly after midnight. Failure to induce
       MRS. GEDDIS to marry him seems to have been the 
       motive for the rash deed.
