- Holmes County -
Holmes County was created on January 8, 1848 from Jackson and Walton counties.
The first county seat was Hewett's Bluff, but later removed to Cerro Gordo, Pittman's Ferry, Westville, and
finally Bonifay. Bonifay is also the largest city in the county.
