W. H. Evans, pastor of the Newhall Community Church for many years and known as "The Old Shepherd," made plans to conduct funeral ser- vices in the canyon tomorrow. Services for Mr. and Mrs. HENRY R. RUIZ and four chil- dren will occur at the Ruiz ranch, about ten miles up the canyon, Sunday morning. The RUIZ family, descendants of an old Spanish house resident in San Francisquito for generations, maintained a cemetery on their place for many years and many of the old canyon residents have been buried there. So tomorrow will witness, perhaps the most pathetic ceremony to follow the tragic dam break. A road has been reconstructed to the ranch and many of the residents of the hills, still touched with the atmosphere of the old West, will be there. Later in the week members of two other families will be buried in the same spot. Mr. Evans, the only minister within a wide radius of Newhall, was well known by his flock and many requests have been made to have him officiate at funerals. At 1:30 p.m. Monday he will conduct services over the bodies of MRS. HOMER COE and her young son at the Palms Christian Church in the Los Angeles suburb. COE was a worker on the dam.
