Arizona is known as the Grand Canyon State, but has also been called The Copper State and The Valentine State because of the date
it was admitted to the Union. It is located in the Southwestern region of the United States. It forms the
four corners region of the western United States along with New Mexico, Utah and Colorado. It also borders California
to the west and Nevada to the northwest. It has an international border with the Mexican states of Baja California
and Sonora to the south. The largest city and capital is Phoenix
Arizona was admitted to the Union as the 48th state on 14 February, 1912. Before that date it was known as Arizona Territory. It is internationally known for the Grand Canyon National Park, one of the seven natural wonders of the world.
Arizona is home to 27 federally recognized Native American Tribes that make up roughly one-quarter of the state. The largest of these in the state as well as the country is the Navajo Nation.
