FRIDAY, June 28, 1872 Vol. II, Number 76 FROM MANISTEE. ----- A Whisky Riot Summarily Squelched. ----- Special Dispatch to the Detroit Tribune. MANISTEE, June 20 - On Monday night 100 men in the interest of whisky, surrounded Mr. D. B. RUGGLES' house and threatened to hang him, but left, giving him 48 hours in which to leave the city. Mr. RUGGLES is still here and the whiskyites are actively engaged trying to get up a mob for Wednes- day night. Mayor ROBINSON has issued a proclamation, largely increased the police force, and the Sheriff has appointed 25 special deputies. SECOND DISPATCH. MANISTEE, June 20. - At 11 o'clock last night the rioters met near LOARENSON'S saloon. On a call of the roll, 155 men re- ported, a portion of whom were armed with guns. Their standard was a two-gallon whisky jug. They then marched in the direction of Mr. RUGGLES' house, voci- ferating and firing guns. When arriving near the house they were met by 20 police- men, and were commanded to disperse. Some obeyed and others hesitated, when the police were ordered to charge and make arrests. The mob then fled in all direc- tions. Six arrests were made. ==========================================================================
