VIII. - NO. 50 WHOLE NO. 414. - "All quiet this week - Ruggles out of town" - Standard, Saturday. Let us see what the Standard calls "all quiet." On Sunday the most disgraceful row that has occurred in Manistee since the Compky murder took place at a saloon kept by Nick Welbes, near Sand's mill. Welbes and another man, whose name whose name we could not learn, got into a drunken row. Result: Welbes was stabbed in several places, though not dangerously hurt; but the other man was not so fortunate; Welbes shot him in the side of the head, inflicting a dangerous wound. Drs. Siqveland and Fisher were called to see the man, and found a hole through the skull, which they probed to the depth of two inches, but were unable to find the ball. On Tuesday, two days after the affair, the mans brains oozed from the wound, and but little hopes are entertained of his recovery. Again: On Monday even- ing another disgraceful row occurred in a saloon --- in which some of the guardians of the peace were mixed up. Of course the Standard will say, as it did in the Sorenson matter, that we "lied." How long these disgraceful affairs will continue to curse our city can only be measured by the existence of the Standard and its supporters. If such affairs are to be continued, and they must be upheld, or rather the cause of them must be upheld, by the Standard, we suggest that they betake themselves to some secluded nook or corner of the earth, where they may enjoy the full bent of their inclinations, until the fate of the "Kinkenny Cats" be theirs. ===========================================================================
