John McKay TONNAGE: 279.14 gt DIMENSIONS: 139.6 x 26.1 x 10.6 CASUALTIES: 6 or 7 (all) The OSTRICH cleared Milwaukee, light, on October 19 to load hemlock lumber at Torch Lake and return to Milwaukee. She was caught, and wrecked, by a severe gale that tore across northern Lake Michigan on the 27th and 28th. Historians speculate that the OSTRICH came in collision with the big steamer W. H.
