PETOSKEY, Mich., Oct. 20. - (AP) - One of the worst fall storms in years today is sweeping Petoskey and northern Michigan, a gale being accompanied by snow flurries and lower temperatures. Lake craft crowd the harbors for shelter. Many lake wharfs have been damaged by the beating waves which in Little Traverse bay have reached a height of from 30 to 40 feet. The large government pier that shelters the Petoskey harbor is crumbling under the force of the waves and the shore line is strewn with timbers. The 102 foot elevator tower recently erected at the Petoskey Portland Cement Co. plant was destroyed yesterday. The storm which at times takes the appearance of a blizzard and again of a wind storm, has destroyed road signs, trees and other property. Navigation has halted completely. ============================================================================ If you've reached this file through a SEARCH, you can access more of our growing collection of FREE online information by going to the following URL: http://www.us-data.org/ ============================================================================
