                      ALANSON.  A station on the G. R.
                 & I.R.R., 25 miles from Mackinaw City,
                 and 221 from Grand Rapids, located in
                 Maple River township, Emmet county,
                 on Crooked river, 3/4 of a mile north of
                 Crooked Lake, 8 miles southeast of Har-
                 bor Springs, the county seat, and 10-1/2
                 northeast of Petoskey, its nearest banking
                 town.  The village, which was formerly
                 called Hinman, has steamboat communi-
                 cation with Cheboygan daily during navi-
                 gation; fare, $1.50.  Principal shipments,
                 logs, ties and poles.  Improved land in
                 the vicinity is worth $20 per acre.  Exp.,
